Checklist for Moving BEFORE YOU LEAVE: Give address change to Post office Charge accounts and credit cards Friends and relatives Bank Transfer funds and arrange check-cashing in new city Arrange credit references Insurance Notify company of new location for coverage: Life, Health, Fire, and Auto Utility companies Gas, water, telephone, and power company Medical, Dental, and Prescription Histories Ask doctor and dentist for referrals Charge accounts and credit cards Transfer needed prescriptions And don't forget to Leave old keys needed by new tenant or owner with realtor or attorney Empty freezer Defrost freezer and clean refrigerator Clean carpeting and rugs Arrange to have items wrapped for moving On moving day Carry enough cash or travelers checks to cover cost of moving services Carry documents, jewelry, and other valuables yourself. At your new address Check on service or telephone, gas, electricity, and water Check pilot light on stove, water heater, and furnace Have new address recorded on driver's license Register car within 5 days Apply for state driver's license Register children in school Arrange for medical services such as doctor, dentist, etc.
